If there is one trend among the children in our circle of friends at parties and festivities, it is definitely pinatas. No child’s birthday party goes without a pinata. Since the parts can be very pretty, but sometimes also very expensive for their average short life span, I will show you how you can easily make a sheep pinata yourself. Because the next festival is almost upon us.
YOU NEED:
- dattelbeere crafting set “Pinata sheep”
- Scissors
- Balloon

PRINT OUT CRAFTING SET
The first thing you will need in order to begin crafting is the matching craft kit for this blog post. Either you download it as a file and print out all the elements at home or you use my new printing service. In case you don’t have a high-quality printer or high-quality paper, you can always just check out my shop and have the craft kit directly sent to you. Or even if you would just like to start on it without any major organizational effort.
PAPIER-MÂCHÉ BODY
We want to make the body of the sheep from papier-mâché. You will need a balloon, paste, a brush and newspaper. First you blow up the balloon to your desired size and knot it. Now you spread the paste all over the balloon and put small pieces of newspaper on it until the whole balloon is covered. At the point around the knot you leave free. Here you should leave an opening into which your hand will later fit to attach the suspension.
To get more stability, because the body should carry a certain amount of sweets later, you should apply several layers of newspaper. I have applied about 4-5 layers.
Now the papier-mâché balloon must dry. The best way to do this is to tie a piece of tape to the knot and hang it up. So it can dry evenly and does not get dents. This can take a couple hours.
CUTTING OUT MATERIALS
In the meantime, you cut out the head and feet, which you will receive in the date berry craft kit.
SHEEPPEL
For the wool of the sheep we use crepe paper. Cut the standard roll into finger-wide pieces, turn it by 90 degrees and then make many small parallel straight cuts with the scissors. This results in a long frayed crepe paper band.
When the paste on the balloon is dry, you can let the air out of the balloon. Simply cut a hole in the balloon and take the leftovers out of the now finished papier-maché ball by hand.
Now place the papier-mâché ball in front of you so that the opening is on the side. We want to cover the hole with the head later. The frayed crepe paper is now fixed in a circle with the help of the glue.
Until the body is finally completely covered.
MOUNT THE SUSPENSION
To be able to hang the pinata, we need a hook made of wire. To do this you first try to find out the main focus. With a pair of pliers you cut a piece of wire about 10 cm long and stick both ends into the papier-mâché ball. Now go into the opening with your hand and twist both ends from the inside.
FILL UP
The opening is of course also used to fill the pinata with sweets. 😛
HEAD AND LEGS
Finally, glue the head to the opening and the four legs on the sides of the body with a glue stick.
DONE!
And ready is your own homemade pinata.

Would you like to watch the instructions on video? With pleasure! Definitely check out mydattelbeereYouTube channeland watch the videos showing my DIY crafting ideas. Of course, I would be even more delighted if you subscribe to it, since the dattelbeere community should grow there as well.
I’m curious how you like the pinata. I find our lamb sugar sweet and am looking forward to show it to Monsieur Milchbart and Mister Spucki. Likes to link me to Instagram with @dattelbeere, if you recreate the pinata. I look forward to your photos.
Have a sunny week!
