Crafting a pregnancy calendar for siblings

Close-up pregnancy calendar

Close-up pregnancy calendarEvery woman who is already a mom and expecting another child is familiar with the impatient questions of the kids that know they are getting a sibling. In order to make the waiting time easier for Mr. Milkbeard, I created a pregnancy calendar that shows each day that is left until the pregnancy is over so that the sibling can estimate that particular time span a bit better. Questions like:

„Mommmmmmyyy? When will my brother finally come out of your belly?”

„It’s taking forever till the baby is finally fully developed!”

Or also:„ When will your belly pop?”

are part of the everyday agenda. Of course, these are not the most charming things that you hear, on top of already feeling like a walrus and thanks to the matching lovely water retentions that are part of the optic of a perfect summer pregnancy. You can’t hold it against an almost 3 year old who is skeptical towards their mommy and the body changes she is going through. I took it with humor – you have no other choice really, or?

In order to make the waiting time easier for the big brother, giving him a time span, that he is able to understand and include him into the joyful anticipation of having another family member – what is more beautiful than an impatient child? Nope! – I prepared myself with cardboard and scissors and created a pregnancy calendar for him. This way he could stick a new sticker onto a new free balloon that represents a day of the pregnancy. The calendar also has the pregnancy week and days on it. The number of air balloons is picked out on purpose, so that it will definitely be enough to cover till the calculation due date and Mr. Milkbeard received a visual limit which makes it easier for him to understand my answers:

„Your little brother will be here as soon as all of the air balloons get a sticker on them.”

Thus, every morning we diligently filled an air balloon on the pregnancy calendar and when 40+1 came around, the little brother was already here and the waiting game was over.
